백미옥의 작업은 회화의 전통적 개념인 ‘평면성’을 의도적으로 비켜가며 새로운 접근을 모색한다. 이는 작가와 작품, 더 나아가 미술의 정체성을 탐구하는 과정 속에서 ‘나’를 해소하고 타자와의 공존으로 나아가려는 태도와 맞닿아 있다. 초기 작업이 형상을 통해 색채를 구성적으로 드러냈다면, 최근에는 형상을 해체하고 색채 자체에 밀착하며 화면을 확장한다. 이러한 변화는 올오버 회화와 연결되며, 경계를 잃은 색들이 겹치고 흐르며 다층적인 관계를 형성한다. ‘염력’ 시리즈는 작가의 직관과 통찰을 색으로 구현한 것으로, 화면에 적극 개입하는 방식과 행위를 절제하는 방식이 공존한다. 이를 통해 작가는 분별과 갈등을 넘어선 보다 성숙한 존재의 감각을 드러내고자 한다. 이번 전시는 완결된 성취라기보다 변화의 과정과 앞으로의 가능성을 보여주는 데 의의가 있다.

Mee-Ok Paik’s work deliberately moves away from the traditional concept of “flatness” in painting, seeking a new approach. This attitude is closely tied to an exploration of identity—of the artist, the artwork, and art itself—while also pointing toward a dissolution of the self and a movement toward coexistence with others. Where her earlier works revealed color through structured forms, her recent practice dismantles form, engaging directly with color itself and expanding the pictorial field. This shift resonates with all-over painting, as colors lose their boundaries, overlap, and flow to form multilayered relationships.
The Yeomnyeok series embodies the artist’s intuition and insight through color, where active intervention and restrained gesture coexist. Through this, Paik seeks to express a more mature sense of being that transcends division and conflict. This exhibition is significant not as a final achievement, but as a process of transformation and a reflection of future potential.
