“우리는 어디로 나아가야 하는가?” 생명의 의미-삶과 죽음, 영원의 신비-와 같은 자아 성찰적인 질문을 한결같이 던진다. 작가의 이전 작업이 고독한 정체성을 궁구하고, 확인하는 작업이었다면, 이번 전시는 광대한 존재 앞의 강렬한 감각을 경외심으로 내보이는 숭고의 감정을 그려낸다. 슬프지만 명징한 빨강, 푸르고 파란 눈부신 색채, 반짝이는 노랑, 심연을 시리게 건드리는 보라의 섬세한 대비는 마치 자연이 불러일으키는 무한한 거대함 속의 비밀스러운 고요함을 불러일으킨다.
‘숨을 멎게 하는 고요와 긴장, 나를 허덕이게 만드는 감동 그리고 그것은 광채이다…’ 작가는 점, 선, 면의 기본적 구성에 충실하면서도 색채의 장식성과 추상성을 본능적으로 담아낸다.초월적인 상태의 장대한 색채와 희열에 차 있는 미묘한 색의 하모니는 숭고의 감정을 빛으로 야기하는 특징이다. 점점의 노랑, 빨강, 파랑, 보라는 이렇게 내면의 순수함을 드러낸다. 사실 작가가 작업에 쓰는 실제적인 원색은 숭고한 대상을 받아들이기 위해 개념화하거나 인식하는 과정 없이 직관적인 도약을 상징한다. 그 결과, 관객은 고요의 굵은 점액을 바라보면서 깊은 명상의 감정과 같은 고조된 에너지 상태에 다다르게 된다. 그 어느 시대보다 예술에 대한 관심이 높아진 지금, 작가의 작품에서 영적 상징성을 우리의 무한한 감성과 다양한 표현으로 의미를 찾아보는 것은 어떨까
“Where are we heading?” The artist persistently poses self-reflective questions on the meaning of life—existence and death, and the mystery of eternity. If the artist’s earlier works were devoted to probing and affirming a solitary identity, this exhibition renders the emotion of the sublime as an expression of awe before a vast and overwhelming existence. The sorrowful yet lucid red, the dazzling blues and greens, the shimmering yellow, and the delicate contrast of purple that pierces the depths evoke a secret stillness within the boundless immensity of nature. “Breath-stopping stillness and tension, an overwhelming emotion that leaves me gasping—this is radiance…” While remaining faithful to the fundamental elements of point, line, and plane, the artist instinctively captures both the decorative and abstract qualities of color. Monumental hues in a transcendent state, along with subtle harmonies filled with elation, generate the sublime through light. Countless dots of yellow, red, blue, and purple reveal an inner purity. In fact, the primary colors the artist employs symbolize an intuitive leap—one that embraces the sublime without the need for conceptualization or cognitive mediation. As a result, the viewer, encountering these dense constellations of color, is led into a heightened state of energy akin to deep meditation. At a time when interest in art is greater than ever, perhaps we might turn to the artist’s work to seek meaning in its spiritual symbolism—through our infinite sensibilities and diverse modes of perception.
