회화의 평면성은 작가가 자신의 정체성과 작품의 본질을 고독하게 확인해가는 과정이다. 한 작가의 작업을 따라가다 보면 이러한 존재에 대한 탐구는 마치 성장 서사처럼, 시기마다 다른 방식으로 드러난다. 이번 전시의 ‘염력(念力)’ 시리즈는 작가로서의 정체를 화면 위에서 해소하며, 정신적·물질적 차원에서의 화업의 성장을 보여준다. 초기에는 색에 대한 탐미에서 출발해 형상을 빌린 구상 작업을 선보였다면, 이제는 형상을 벗고 색채 자체로 깊이 밀착해간다. 경계를 잃은 색들은 서로 겹쳐지고 흐르며, 긁히고 섞이면서 긴장감 있는 화면을 형성한다.
작품은 크게 두 가지 경향으로 나타난다. 하나는 색채의 층을 긁어내며 그 내력을 드러내는 역동적인 작업으로, 겹쳐진 색들이 복합적인 관계를 동시에 드러낸다. 다른 하나는 보다 고요하고 차분한 화면으로, 색 속에 형상을 해소하고 작가의 의지마저 녹여내며 사유의 깊이를 더한다. ‘염력’이라는 제목이 암시하듯, 작가는 삶에서 축적된 통찰을 통해 세계의 본질, 나아가 자신의 직관을 포착하고자 한다. 이는 다원(多元)의 분별과 갈등을 해소하고 공존을 위해 ‘나’라는 정체를 비워 타자와 세계로 확장하려는 시도로, 보다 성숙한 존재의 실감을 드러낸다.
The flatness of painting is a process through which the artist quietly and persistently examines their own identity and the essence of the work. When following an artist’s practice over time, this inquiry into existence unfolds differently at each stage, much like a narrative of growth. In this exhibition, the “Yeomnyeok (念力)” series dissolves the artist’s identity onto the canvas, revealing the spiritual and material evolution of her practice. While her earlier works began with a fascination for color and took on representational forms, she now abandons figuration to engage more intimately with color itself. Colors, having lost their boundaries, overlap and flow, while being scratched and blended, forming a surface charged with tension.
The works can be broadly understood in two tendencies. One is dynamic, where the artist scrapes through layers of color to reveal their history, and the overlapping hues simultaneously express complex relationships. The other is quieter and more restrained, where form is dissolved into color, and even the artist’s will is softened into the surface, deepening a sense of contemplation. As the title “Yeomnyeok” suggests, the artist seeks to grasp the essence of the world—and more precisely, her own intuition—through insights accumulated over a lifetime. This reflects an attempt to resolve the distinctions and conflicts of plurality, and, in pursuit of coexistence, to empty the fixed notion of the self and extend it toward others and the external world. In doing so, the work reveals a more mature sense of being.
